Williams, PhD, Department Editor Pain and Disparities Special Interest Group: Update on ActivitiesRaymond Tait, PhD The Pain and Disparities SIG has been active over the past year. At the 2004 joint scientific meeting of the American Pain Society (APS) and Canadian Pain Society (CPS), the Pain and Disparities SIG staffed a booth that drew considerable attention from attendees, a number of whom signed up to become new SIG members. Materials at the booth included a guide to disparities-related research, which was presented at the meeting, and other selected publications. Several members also presented a symposium on racial and ethnic disparities in the treatment of pain at the APS/CPS meeting. Currently, in addition to their individual research- and policy-related endeavors, members of the SIG are involved in planning the 2005 APS conference. Also, the organizing committee is wrestling with governance policies aimed at providing structure and stability to the SIG over the years ahead. APS members who wish to know more about the SIG are encouraged to check the APS Web site. Raymond Tait, PhD, is professor, Department of Psychiatry, St. Louis University School of Medicine. David A. Williams, PhD, Department Editor, invites APS Special Interest Group (SIG) chairs to submit SIG-related news to daveawms@umich.edu. |
