MembershipSpecial Interest GroupsGeriatric PainInaugural Chair 2007-2008:William Schwab, MD PhD AGSF Founding Members:William S Schwab MD PHD Mission:We feel that pain in the elderly is a poorly understood, underdiagnosed, undertreated, and common problem. Geriatric pain presents significant problems both to the patients who suffer from it and the practitioners who are uncomfortable treating it. We feel that the American Pain Society should take a leadership role in improving the lives of our elders in pain. We propose the creation of a Special Interest Group focusing on the unique aspects of the basic science, diagnosis, and clinical aspects of pain in an older population. The title of the special interest group would be "Geriatric Pain". The interests of the SIG would be to aid in the dissemination of information on pathophysiology and treatment of pain in the elderly and chronically ill. To facilitate and disseminate research and best practice in the treatment of acute and chronic pain in the elderly and those with chronic illness. How to join the SIG:Please contact Dr. Schwab at William.S.Schwab@KP.org for admission. Meeting Information:The inaugural meeting will be at the 2007 APS conference in Washington. |
