Mission Statement

To promote and enhance education, policies, and research in the basic science mechanisms of pain to improve the treatment and quality of life for individuals with pain.

Focus of the SIG

  1. To foster interactions among basic scientists interested in studying pain
  2. To assess the common interests of basic scientists in the American Pain Society
  3. To identify and support the leadership that will represent the common interests of basic scientists to the APS
  4. To promote involvement of and develop leadership skills in young scientists in the society
Mechanisms by which these foci will be achieved:
  1. Hold an annual business meeting featuring presentations by new scientists, discussing pertinent issues that affect basic research progress, identifying new leadership
  2. Hold an annual basic science dinner featuring a topic of significant interest to basic researchers. This dinner meeting is designed to promote active discussion among basic scientists regarding controversial topics.
  3. Ongoing listserv communication and interaction
  4. Interactive website with information and tools for streamlining research issues
