The Essentials of Pain Management: Principles and Practice

This year the American Pain Society (APS) will hold its 27th Annual Scientific Meeting in Tampa, FL, May 8 - May 10, 2008. For the 7th consecutive year, the American Pain Society will present an intensive two-day pre-conference entitled, “The Essentials of Pain Management: Principles and Practice,” a 2-day course for 3rd and 4th year residents in Anesthesia, Neurology, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Physical/Rehabilitation Medicine. Scholarships will be offered to 3rd and 4th year residents in anesthesiology, neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, family medicine and emergency medicine. This multidisciplinary program will be held at the Tampa Convention Center on May 6 and May 7, 2008. Each participant’s scholarship will cover this two day intensive training and registration for the 27th APS Annual Scientific Meeting, which begins May 8 and concludes on May 10, as well as a complimentary one-year membership to the American Pain Society, round trip transportation costs, hotel accommodations, and a food stipend. This program is sponsored by the American Pain Society.

The field of pain medicine has literally exploded over the last decade with an incredible wealth of basic scientific information as well as clinical information regarding assessment and therapeutics now available. This course, developed by a group of dedicated pain professionals within the American Pain Society, is designed to provide each participant with a foundation that, along with participation in the remainder of the American Pain Society meeting, will provide each resident with an enjoyable and significant educational experience. Each member of the faculty is a nationally recognized leader in pain management. The APS is proud to sponsor this program as an important component in pain management education and is grateful for the support of this initiative provided by Endo Pharmaceuticals through an educational grant.

Only candidates who are interested in pursuing an academic career involving pain management and can commit to attending the full program, i.e., May 6 through May 10, 2008, should apply.
